SUMMITSKILLS (The Standard Setting Organisation for Building Services Engineering)

SummitSkills is the Standard Setting Organisation for the building services engineering (BSE) sector.
SummitSkills is employer-led and employer-owned – we work with the sector to develop and maintain standards, qualifications and apprenticeships. By acting as the voice of the industry and working directly with employers, we can ensure that skills development for the sector remains tailored and fit for purpose.
By having a BSE-specific approach, the industries within the sector – plumbing, electrotechnical, heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration – can continue to benefit from a more specialised focus on each industry’s skills needs, rather than being addressed as part of the wider construction market.
SummitSkills is dedicated to giving the BSE sector a voice on the ever-changing skills landscape. Each industry within the sector has highly specific and technical needs and so a focused approach to skills development is essential.
SummitSkills is working in partnership with other bodies in the built environment to lay firm foundations for Green Deal, which will improve the energy efficiency of the UK’s homes and businesses.
SummitSkills is an active member of a number of groups within the Green Skills arena including among others the Green Skills Alliance with Construction Skills & the Building Futures Group; Green Deal Installer Forum; OFGEM RHI Forum and the BSECAG (Building Services Engineering Competency Advisory Group). This enables us to continue to reflect the current needs of the sector whilst having a close working relationship with government departments such as DECC and DCLG.

SummitSkills will formulate the learning units and learning outcomes of the program and ensure compatibility with the National and European Qualifications framework and tools, contribute in the identification of training and skills requirements of the sector and the development of pedagogical resources, participate in the development of a Memorandum of Understanding for the common recognition and exploitation of the project’s results and organise a multiplier event in the UK.
